The 2016 GLOBE Community Awards are nearly here and the Artist of the Year Award is one of our most popular!
This category is awarded to a Victorian GLBTI artist for exceptional work in the performing arts, visual arts, music or film. Here’s some background on our finalists for the 2016 award:
Lisa White – is a Melbourne photographer known for creating her In Bed Project. Inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1969 bed-in. Lisa’s project series include over 120 works of families who support marriage equality. Lisa studied photography in New Zealand before moving to Melbourne where she began work as a family and wedding photographer.
Gavin Roach – is a wonderful writer and performer based in Melbourne, although his shows take him around the world. Gavin graduated the Bachelor of Arts (Acting for the Screen and Stage) at Charles Sturt University in 2003, Bachelor of Arts (Acting for the Screen and Stage, Honours.) 2006 and Gavin graduated with Masters in Arts Management at UTS in 2011. Most recently, Gavin Roach adapted Daniel Witthaus’ book BEYOND PRISCILLA for the stage.
Cory McKinnon – is highly revered throughout the GLBTIQ community as a ‘Jack AND Jill’ of all trades. From choreography to costume design to all elements of stage design and production Corey has been at the forefront of countless GLBTIQ events, as performer and director in equal measures. First and foremost he is an entertainer and through his showmanship and confidence he inspires community engagement and equality.
The Sparrow Men – is a completely unique and improvised show, created by two world-class and unique men, Marcus and Andy. Marcus and Andy studied at the iO in Chicago. Markus and Andy perform, teach and coach weekly-improvised theatre company called The Improv Conspiracy.
