The Connecting the LGBTI Community category recognises those individuals and organisations that help bring together the LGBTI community through activities and events which celebrate diversity.
Here are the finalists for Connecting the LGBTI Community Award:
Midsumma Festival is Melbourne’s premier queer arts and cultural festival, and for the past thirty years has provided a platform for LGBTQI artists and performers, with a more recent focus on trans and indigenous performers, and performers living with disability.
Purple Bombers, in conjunction with the Essendon Football Club, work to raise funds to promote gender equality, and advocate for indigenous rights within the AFL and sporting communities.
Minus18 is an organization dedicated to Australia’s LGBTQI youth, and offers a range of seminars, workshops, and educational materials reaching over fifty thousand people in Melbourne and Adelaide alone.
Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus and shOUT Youth Chorus provides a vast, musical showcase stretching from Melbourne to Castlemaine and Shepparton, and works to unite community members with workshops, events, and song.
