The Protecting Our Community Award recognises organisations who protect the safety and human rights of the LGBTI community in Victoria.
The award is sponsored by Lander and Rogers.
Check out this year’s finalists:
- Switchboard Victoria is a community based not for profit organisation that provides peer based, volunteer run support services for LGBTI people and their friends, families and allies. Switchboard also runs Out & About, a social home visiting service for LGBTI Victorians at risk of social isolation.
- LGBTI Rights Unit, Human Rights Law Centre is dedicated to advocating for the rights of LGBTI people across Victoria and Australia. Over the past 12 months the unit has played a key role in positive social and legal change for LGBTI people including work on marriage quality and the rights of trans and gender diverse people.
- Project Rockit serves to support LGBTI youth through whole-school efforts to curb discrimination. In a climate where tackling LGBTI prejudice in schools has been highly politicised Project Rockit continues to break down misogyny and slut-shaming, challenge homophobic and transphobic slurs and support allies to the community.
